Updated: Aug 15, 2022
Training
Organizations train employees for many reasons. Some training is mandatory and other training may be optional depending upon the employee’s interests and career goals.
Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400–600 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.
Discuss the differences between mandatory and optional training topics.
What is the purpose of employer-provided training?
Using examples, describe the types of training that employers provide.
Are there some topics that are optional that should be considered mandatory for specific positions or industries? If so, which ones?
Mandatory training is required for an employee to have in order to even get to work the job that is available. Optional training the employee has a choice to take the training or not. Most jobs require training and set a period of time for you to learn what the job requires and how to set things up for the employee to go about doing the job. The purpose for employers providing training is for the employee to know what is expected and how to perform the job. Providing the training to employees allows employers to see the knowledge and skills they want their candidates to have. (Importance of Training and Development for Employees, n.d.)I am currently in training at a restaurant called walk ons. I am in prep in which it is in the kitchen. Since I have been in training I have already learned how to proportion and bag food products as the company has set serving size and prices according to the size of the product. They are teaching me how to prepare the food for the grill side of the kitchen, so that they can cook and get it to the customers as they order.
Several different types of training can be provided by the employer such as orientation, safety training, and team training. (What Are the Different Types of Workplace Training?, 2020) Orientation that I went through was basically an overview of the entire company. I received a code of conduct package as well as a new hire package. We went over the code of conduct and the new hire packet. In which they assisted us in filling it out and how to fill out the W2 form as well as the insurance. It was also like a welcome to the company . I got my badge and we had to watch videos and answer questions at the end. Safety training was a part of those videos. In the safety video they showed us how to properly wear safety glasses and ear plugs. It also informed us about how to wash our eyes out if gunpowder or dust got into our eyes. It also showed where the eye station was located throughout the company. As I stated about walk ons in prep it is a team effort. Everyone is trained in each area no one has a designated area to be, to ensure that we all learn how to prep everything that needs to be prepped. We ask each other questions and to assist when we need it. We prepare some things together to get it done in a timely manner, especially if it's a 911 which means they need it as soon as possible.
Yes I think dress code and health insurance in the factory and food industry should be mandatory. I know factories do not have a dress code, but it should be one. From experience of working in a factory some of my former coworkers came to work dressed very inappropriately. This can be embarrassing when the company is trying to sell products and the potential buyer walks through the company along with the president of the company. It can also be a distraction from male coworkers looking at the female and could cause an accident. I understand that you are grown but you don’t have to show everything off. Health insurance should be a mandatory requirement for all jobs. Everybody needs insurance to keep themselves checked out or anything can happen and if not covered it could cost them thousands of dollars.
