Discuss the role and importance of talent management in the field of Human Resource Management.
Talent management refers to the programs that are designed, intergraded, and proactively designed by organizations to build and sustain a high-performance workforce. Talent management helps build a high-performing workforce. In addition, it is very important for the organization as it enables develop proper compensation strategies for the better-performing employees, builds competency criteria and levels among the employees and organization at large, and the proper position of the employees to achieve their set goals. Also, talent management helps an organization acquire the best-performing employees to meet its needs and cultivate the employees into a highly efficient workforce that meets the organization's needs. It encourages continuous learning to develop the full potentials and talents of the employees and increase production and employee efficiency as well as their job satisfaction.
Explain your experience with the talent management process.
In my previous organization, there was a sector that helped in talent management. When a new project was set to be implemented, there was a need for new team members to help implement the project. This called for the management to host a competition amongst the employees to pick the suitable employees to implement the program. The employees had a task to complete to show their understanding of the model which the project could take. People came up with various ideas and that was how they were grouped into sub-teams and each allocated their task which best suited them.
At my current workplace, there have also been cases of talent management where they only recruit top talents, especially when dealing with special teams that will only work on specific tasks or projects that need high intelligence, commitment, skills, or critical thinking which makes the teams high performing. There are also special offers and rewards for such teams to compensate for their efficiency thus helping retain them and motivating them to push further to fully explore their potential.
Explain 2 key takeaways from each chapter in the assigned readings this week.
From chapter 1, the two key takeaways are the blueprint and creed which are the integrated component of the approach to talent management that has been proven valuable by research. Blueprint is a set of principles to guide the organization's strategy and tactical talent management strategy while creed is a widely publicized core principles values and mutual expectations that guide the behavior of the people and the organization. Both help in proper talent management processes.
From chapter 2, the key takeaways are the value of understanding the signals in the blueprint to action process and the importance of evaluating outcomes on every step of the blueprint to action process. These two factors play an important role in ensuring the blueprint is implemented according to the expectations and that it benefits the talent management process. The signals, help the organization understand when to stop, proceed or accelerate with their actions by evaluating the signals one after another along the process. It determines the pace at which the blueprint is turned into action. The outcomes help understand whether the process is meeting the expectations or not and thus have a change of plans in case it is not according to expectations.
From chapter 3, the key takeaways are the value of an employer brand and potential rewards in acquiring and retaining top talents in the industry. Most employees or talented personnel will aim at working at a top employer brand where they believe their talent will be well utilized or they might develop their talents further. Some will also go to the organizations that offer the best or higher rewards than others as they deem worth their talents.
