How has your understanding changed?

From the first week to this week I realize that in literally everything you do pertains to research methods. There is always a reason why, and a counter reason. Everything is a constant study, nothing ever stops when it comes to research methods. With that if you dive deeper into whatever you are looking into you continue to have an even better understanding in that subject.

Provide an example of how research methods applies in your discipline.

In the Criminal Justice Field using research methods is what gets answers. You can use it in order to get the simplest answers to an easy case. For example, a traffic stop for a speeding violation. You ask yourself multiple questions just as the officer would after he/she pulls you over. You ask questions, you get answers or realize similar situations that you need to be aware of. In all of those instances you are using research methods.

How might you be able to use what you learned in this course in your life, personally and/or professionally?

I believe a part of me uses research methods every day and did not even realize it until taking this class. In my professional life I always have to use it because everything is always changing in the criminal justice sector. The initial plan that we have in place usually never happens and instead we go with another plan that, might suit the situation or the problem at hand. Personally, I didn’t think this method could be so helpful but with the learning taking place and reviewing what I have experienced in the past, I think I will be able to apply the information learned to address my challenges. Once I was able to get out of my own way and stopped thinking that everything I thought was how I felt and that was that, I would have applied the research method to get a solution to my challenge at that time. learning this course is helping me get more open-minded and more receptive to people outside of my personal bubble.
