Difference between conservation and preservation

Conservation relates to utilization of natural resources sustainably and is entirely focused on the needs and biological, cultural, recreational and economic interest of the people. Preservation, on the other hand, relates to the maintenance of the unexploited natural resources. The primary focus of environmental protection is to prevent the natural resources from excessive utilization by human beings which result to their depletion (Morin, and Orsini, 2014). Gifford Pinchot and John Muir were two men who held different viewpoints about the environment. Muir perceived the nature as space to be respected and revered without human intrusion. Gifford on the other hand coined about nature conservation. Conservation and preservation of natural resources are critical in attaining a sustainable environment.

Federal government involvement in environmental issues

The federal government got more involved than previously in environmental issues during the FDR’s New Deal as a response to the unprecedented crisis that led to ecological degradation among other fatal consequences in America. The involvement aimed at soil conservation to stop the dust storms that were significant crises.

Relationship between environmental justice and civil rights in the 1960s

The environmental justice stemmed from the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s.The campaign focused on pollution and prompted the Congress to amend the clean air and water ACT. Environmental justice became intertwined to civil rights, and it led to a mass social movement to focus the public’s attention to environmental conservation and preservation (Rootes, 2014). This is relevant to us in that; it enables us to utilize the natural resources properly while making environmentally sound decisions.
