Would this technology differ if implemented in a traditional bricks-and-mortar organization?

Facebook is one of, if not the biggest social networking site on the internet used by millions of individuals and businesses. It has transformed how people interact with one another personally and through commerce. Facebook and technology go hand in hand. In this virtual world we are living, technology simplifies things.

Facebook operates using various technical interfaces such as Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. These interfaces allow users to communicate using apps such as Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram and Oculus (Facebook SWOT, 2021). This virtual organization operates using an open system. They interact with and are influenced by their environment (Aikens 2011). In other words,

Facebook operates based on their consumers algorithm and trending topics. This all cannot be possible without technology.

Facebook would not exist in a normal brick and mortar business. This virtual business it offers an intangible service to its customers. This business would look like Starbucks without the overpriced lattes if it were a traditional pre-intranet business. Technology affords Facebook the leisure to operate remotely from anywhere. Even with their headquarters being based in California, there operational reach is global. The services provided can only be used with the intranet. An enterprise intranet is a private network that exists within an organization. Facebook operates through this private network and continuously develops intricate ways to capture all aspects of their market.
