BUSN449 WEEK 8 DISCUSSION

Ask yourself the following questions: What did I learn that adds to my knowledge base? How will I be able to apply this knowledge to my career plans or in my personal life? Have my expectations from week 1 been met in this course? How have they been met?

Ask yourself the following questions: What did I learn that adds to my knowledge base?

Knowledge is power and learning is a continuous process. It should never reach a stage in someone’s life where the knowledge applied seems not useful. That was my attitude when I joined this class. I am exuberant that the efforts have paid off. I have been able to learn quite a lot. I was not able to learn everything within a short duration but with dedication and putting in place constant practice, everything has finally paid off. The following are the important lesson areas which I feel has added to my knowledge base. I am now able to use social media effectively in carrying out organizational functions such as human resources recruitment and promoting work related collaborations and improvements. I learnt how to create a portfolio and polish up my Curriculum Vitae. The class also exposed me to ways that one can use to polish up the letters of recommendation. I also never knew that one can effectively use the executive summary to showcase to recruiters what they can achieve within a short duration.

How will I be able to apply this knowledge to my career plans or in my personal life?

I plan to use the knowledge gained in my studies when I will be reviewing several applicants for an organization based job because in my studies I do plan in future to be a human resources assistant in charge of employee recruitment. I also plan to make use of the information gained to polish up my Curriculum Vitae so that I can become the best in my field. I want to get noticed when I apply for jobs. I want to move ahead. My goal is to be quite outstanding in my career. I am positive that this opportunity of learning the things I did in this class will give me an edge.

Have my expectations from week 1 been met in this course? How have they been met?

Since the beginning of the class from Week 1, everything that was thought was so relevant and practical so the course expectations have been met. I also loved interactions with my peers because they improved the knowledge base regarding my future career.

I am guessing the first two questions are based on my degree as a whole. I have learned quite a lot from attending school. Not just academic, but also personally. I have a huge appreciation for time management, which school has taught me, along with emotionally investing myself into something that is for me. I have grown so much since starting classes. It has changed my perception on many things. If I did not have that stimulation, I would most likely be somewhere very different [mentally].

That being said, I laugh out loud when thinking of this, but I thought it would be funny to share with you all. I learned, during my accounting classes, that I hate accounting and why I pay other people to do it for me! J English and writing papers in APA really taught me a lot about being able to present professional work to people. I have had a ton of people tell me that they appreciated the professionalism of a document that is formatted correctly. I have learned about economics, how things work, and critical thinking skills for business related issues.

Being able to look back and ponder about business case studies and what the “correct” answer is to problems/solutions, has taught me two important things. One being that there is always someone in upper management that you can typically ask for their opinion and two, expounding my mind to possibilities/solutions that I never thought about. Knowing this will greatly assist me in forward-moving growth.

My expectations from week 1, which I am guessing is this course and not the beginning of my degree, was okay. I do not think this mandatory class is very good for people my age who are already retired, but for those of you who are young with career opportunities in front of you, I feel is highly beneficial! I did like how this class explained the application process of new hires, executive summaries, and the eportfolio. It will be a great tool for you all to utilize when you start applying for jobs!
