BUSN449 WEEK 2 DISCUSSION

The Human Resources (HR) Department staff perform a myriad of duties in an organization. One of their most important functions is recruiting the right person for a job. It can be a tedious process to select and interview potential employees that the reviewer determines are the best fit with the organization.

For this week, visit an online job board or the job opportunities area within your organization's website and select a job opening that interests you. In your response, share the link to or an attachment containing the job opening with the class and then review the information contained within the job opening you chose.

Are you able to understand the job responsibilities of the job? Was it clear what the applicant requirements were? Do you feel the organization showcased itself well? Did you find the job opening provided enough information to entice you complete the application process? What other information would you have like to have seen included? In your opinion, do you feel that the company follows federal employment guidelines?

After reviewing an online job board, I selected the “Supervisory Postal Operations Specialist” position within the Department of the Navy (link: https://www.usajobs.gov/job/653494700).

Are you able to understand the job responsibilities of the job? I was able to understand the job responsibilities for this position. The responsibilities are very similar to those of previous positions I’ve held during my time in the Air Force.

Was it clear what the applicant requirements were? The requirements to apply for the position are pretty straightforward for a position like this. The same requirements are established for current postal duties within the Air Force.

Do you feel the organization showcased itself well? I do believe the organization showcases itself well. The organization is up-front about the requirements and experience they are searching for to fill this position and describes the overall expectations from the selected employee.

Did you find the job opening provided enough information to entice you complete the application process? Yes, I did find that the job opening provided enough information to entice me to complete the application process. I specifically appreciated how the qualifications sections lists the exact experience equivalency the organization is searching for in place of the initial experience they desire for the position. This allows opportunity for other interested individuals who don’t meet the initial preferred experience qualifications.

What other information would you have like to have seen included? There is a section in the requirements section that specifically mentions “males born after [date]”. I would have liked to see why this is male specific. Because if it isn’t, then myself and other females interested in this position should be aware of this requirement as well. Additionally, I wouldn’t like to see specifics on certifications or special experience attributes that may aid an applicant’s application to be considered.

In your opinion, do you feel that the company follows federal employment guidelines? In my opinion, I do feel the company follows federal employment guidelines. There are multiple references outlined within the job announcement to ensure transparency within the advertised position to what the federal employment expectation is.

The job posting that interested me was a position in Savannah, Georgia as an Alarm Installation Technician for ADT. This posting was found on indeed.com. This job caught my attention initially because it did not require many qualifications that I did not have, and it starts off at 70 thousand dollars a year. It was clear from the title what my job was going to be, however, the actual job description was very detailed and actually provided some insight on some additional things that I would be required to do. As far as applicant requirements are concerned, I feel as if this section was very vague as it only asks if a person is willing to use his or her own vehicle. Overall, I feel like the organization showcased itself well due to the benefits being outlined along with the schedule description and the qualifications. If I were currently on my terminal leave to exit the military, I would definitely consider applying for this job because it pays decent and the benefits seem adequate for what I am looking for in a choice of employment. The only other information I would have liked to see on the job posting is maybe a disclaimer in reference to experience with alarm system (ie. Bachelor’s degree or some form of education highly favored). Based on the information from the job posting I chose, I feel as if this company follows all federal employment guidelines despite their vague description of applicant requirements. Please see the below link for details regarding this posting.
