There is a moth in England called the peppered moth. Before Britain's industrial revolution, these moths were usually salt and pepper colored. Because of their coloring, they blended in well with the tree trunks on which they tended to rest. The coloring helped them hide from the birds that ate them. During the British industrial revolution, industry expelled a lot of soot from the burning of coal into the environment. This soot darkened the tree trunks, and it was noted that black-colored moths were becoming predominant. The idea is that with soot in the environment, black-colored moths fared better than light-colored moths. There is some debate as to whether this is actually the case or not, but for the sake of this question, let's assume it is.

In your own words, explain the concepts from the four observations discussed in 12.2 using the moth as an example. In other words, how does the moth illustrate the first observation, the second observation, etc.?

This so happen due to industrial revolution. that Increase in the dark coloured moths at the time of industrial revolution is example of industrial melanism. After industrial revolution from the pollution in the air affected the trees, therefore lead them to get more darker and also the peppered moth also get more dark. But some peppered moth are lighter in colour, which are easily able too see on the dark trees and due to which the predator easily find them. Because of the lighter colour they does not able to survive more. Hence, there are some debates begins with colour of the peppered moths. Due to the industrial revolution the trees get darker from the soot in the environment. And the peppered moth exits in both darker colour and lighter colour. But as the trees get darker from the soot in the environment the darker moths are easily hide their from the predator and while as predator attack on the lighter colour moth because they are easily spotted due to the darker background. therefore, as a result the darker moths become predominate and there selected for the natural selection and reproduction.

Homology It is the relationship that exists between two different organic parts when their genetic determinants have the same evolutionary origin. There is homology between the included organs of two different species, when both derived from the corresponding organ of their common ancestor, regardless of how disparate they may have become. The four even limbs of vertebrates with jaws (gnatostomes), from sharks to birds or mammals, are homologous. In the same way, the end of a horse's leg is homologous to the middle finger of the hand and the human foot.

One of the most representative examples of homology is that between the gill cartilage of fish, the jaw of reptiles and the middle ear of mammals

Convergent evolution is the emergence of phenotypic similarities in two or more lineages, independently. Generally, this pattern is observed when the groups involved are subjected to similar environments, microenvironments, or ways of life that translate into equivalent selective pressures.

Among the most notable examples of convergent evolution we can mention the flight in vertebrates, the eye in vertebrates and invertebrates, fusiform forms in fish and aquatic mammals, among others.

A homology is the expression of the same genetic combination and that is assumed to be a common ancestor. An analogy on the contrary, is a structure similar to another or that has the same function, but whose embryonic development and its origin are different. They do not appear in a common ancestor, it is the result of evolutionary convergence
