APA Quiz Answers

Week 2 - Quiz APA ✏️

It is important that you do not plagiarize (or copy) someone else's work without giving credit where credit is due. If you do copy a resource word-for-word, you must put quotations around the text that was copied and then reference it with an in-text citation that looks like (Last Name, Year, Location of quote). The location of the quote would be the page number (p.) or paragraph number (para.). Remember you also must include the full reference in your reference page.

Note: ideally we would want to paraphrase and in that case we would use in-text citations that are just (Last Name, Year).

In-text citations are citations that are put into your document to acknowledge where you got that information. When paraphrasing an idea the proper in-text citation would be (Last Name, year). When using a direct quote, you need to put quotation marks around the direct quote and the in-text citation would be (Last Name, year, location of quote).

It is important to put the punctuation AFTER the in-text citation when using a parenthetical in-text citation. (A Parenthetical in-text citation is when the citation is in parenthesis. There is also a Narrative in-text citation but we will discuss that later). An example of this would be:

Higher BMI, greater figure management, and being teased about appearance were significant factors on body image dissatisfaction in girls whereas only being teased was a significant factor on body image dissatisfaction in boys (Barker & Galambos, 2003).

Notice how the period came after the in-text citation.
